Estonian non-life insurers wrote 149 million euros in insurance premiums in the first quarter of 2022. Insurance premiums were up in volume in the first quarter by 11.8% from the same period a year earlier.

The volume of assets managed by fund managers fell by 3.7% in the first quarter of 2022 from 6.9 billion euros to 6.6 billion. Payouts from the second pillar pension funds in January played a role in reducing the funds under management, as did the volatility in equity markets.

The value of the assets of public funds shrank by 2.3% or 121.5 million euros in the first quarter of 2022. The decline came mostly from equity funds, where the volume of assets was down by 16.2%.

The economic climate in Estonia remained strong in the first quarter with yearly growth of 4.3%. The rate of growth in lending picked up in the first quarter to 10.6% over the year, from 9.6% over the year in 2021, and the loan stock of the sector stood at 31.6 billion euros.

The aggregate loan portfolio of creditors grew by 13% over the quarter to stand at 1.37 billion euros at the end of September.

Withdrawals from the second pension pillar funds had the expected impact on the results of fund managers in the third quarter, as the total value of funds including non-public and foreign funds declined by 1.2 billion euros.
