Finantsinspektsioon organised a high-level international conference for the financial sector on 8 October, where decision-makers from 15 different countries discussed current topics that all affect the functioning of the financial sector and the competitiveness of the economy, including how to simplify regulation and how to protect against cyber risks.

Chair of the Management Board of Finantsinspektsioon Kilvar Kessler said he was very pleased to welcome key decision-makers from the world of finance to Estonia and to be able to discuss with them topics that are vital for the sector and the economy. “Estonia has been in the front line fighting against cyber attacks and handling technological risks. At Finantsinspektsioon we not only minimise cyber risks and keep the lifeblood of the economy flowing stably, we also work to simplify regulation of the financial industry. Rules are important, but they must not choke off development and innovation”, he said, adding that the best decisions come from regional cooperation and meaningful discussions. “We are making this high-level financial conference into a tradition that will continue next year and will be hosted by our Polish colleagues”, he noted.

Chair of the Board of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority Jacek Jastrzębski said they were happy to receive the baton. “We are very pleased that we will be able to hold this essential conference for senior leaders again next year. We are continuing the relay and we look forward to seeing everyone in Warsaw”, he said.

The high-level international conference organised by Finantsinspektsioon was held on 8 October in the conference hall of the Radisson hotel and was attended by 200 participants from Estonia and abroad. Leaders and senior figures from various European financial supervisors, central banks, large commercial banks, and financial firms attended the conference.
