Finantsinspektsioon held an open day on 16 April to present the institution and its work, and 50 students from several universities attended. They learned in more detail about the work that Finantsinspektsioon does, and found out about opportunities for work experience and future careers.

The open day was opened by Chair of the Finantsinspektsioon management board Kilvar Kessler, who has been meeting students for 25 years at the lectures he gives on financial markets and supervision at their universities. Although the staff of Finantsinspektsioon largely have backgrounds in finance, law and, increasingly, IT, Mr Kessler said that good young people from all educational backgrounds were welcome. He pointed out that Finantsinspektsioon is part of the European Supervisory Mechanism and is closely linked with other supervisory authorities, and this is a unique feature of work there. “We work with the best banking supervisors in the world, we have a common store of knowledge with them, and our staff have a wonderful opportunity to learn and develop every day. You can make the world a better place here, and have a broad impact on society”, he said.

Feedback from the students shows that they particularly enjoyed the panel discussion with young staff from Finantsinspektsioon and the thematic workshops that gave more detail on work at the institution and allowed them to ask questions directly from experts on the Finantsinspektsioon staff. They also enjoyed the tour of the buildings and the chance to learn about the smart tools used at work.

There are currently 140 people working at Finantsinspektsioon, and some of them have been there since the institution was first founded more than 20 years ago. The Finantsinspektsioon staff are a good balance of dedicated top-level experts with long experience and young specialists who have arrived in the past few years as the organisation has grown.
